Cage fighters Craig, Charlie, and Courtney take on fight night at Caernarfon’s Market Mayhem, MMA Wales. These Welsh cage fighters are stepping into the cage for their shot. What drives these fighters to fight in the cage?
SGRAP is a Youtube film that follows three amateur cage fighters - Craig 'Bonc' Owen, Charlie Rayner-Jones and Courtney Roberts - as they prepare to step into the cage at Market Mayhem, Caernarfon.
Fighting offers a sense of community and escapism to the three for various reasons…
After 7 years of ketamine addiction, it’s what keeps Charlie on the straight and narrow. "Fighting definitely saved my life, definitely.”
Thrill seeker Craig Bonc, who enjoys "holidays, raving, misbehaving", admits that going into a cage isn’t wise but that it’s made him “a little bit wiser” as it keeps him away from the party life.
For Courtney, PMA Caernarfon fight club offers escapism as she struggles with her mental health. As someone who’s used to "men's ego’s" on the mat, she also forges her place as a girl in a world that isn’t lacking in testosterone.
Through a combination of fly on the wall, master interviews, and gritty music SGRAP hopefully offers a raw, honest and humorous portrayal of three individuals who are looking for something we all need in life: an outlet.
